Normandy

When they were in Oklahoma in April, G & L invited me to visit them in Normandy, so here I am in Hauteville-sur-Mer! Friday, G met me at the train station in Granville, and had lunch in an adorable tearoom. (There are a lot of things influenced by the fact that England is just across the Channel). We visited the old city before heading to their house where we had an evening walk on the beach at very low tide before dinner.

Saturday, we hopped on a ferry and headed to Les Îles Chausey, some Channel Islands I'd never heard of. There, we hiked, picnicked, and stumbled upon an outdoor wedding mass - something I'm told is quite rare here. When we returned to Granville, we did reconnaissance in a local specialty shop, but there were so many gastronomical choices I was overwhelmed. We went back to the tea room for tea (surprise!) and then had a delicious dinner of moules-frites (mussels with tomatoes, basil and a cream sauce) in Hauteville-sur-Mer.

Today, we drove to Omonville-sur-Mer (notice all of the "on-the-sea" in town names) in La Presqu'île du Cotentin, where we had a delicious lunch of grilled fish (sole for me, sea bass for G and St. Pierre for L).

We then continued on further north to La Hague, where G. delighted in seeing a lighthouse (he's a big fan!). We hiked 3km to see more sea, and then went to see Le nez de Jobourg, where there are old pirate caves you can visit at low tide. Unfortunately for us, it was high tide, so that will have to be for another time.
