Cancale

My friends Chantal and Jacques rented a house in Brittany for a week during the Christmas holidays. They generously invited me to spend a few days with them and their friends, so I went for the first couple of days of my vacation. I got there on Saturday evening after crossing my nemesis - le pont de Normandie - yet again. Perhaps after a few more trips west, I will conquer my fear of bridges. But until then, I still have white knuckles while driving what seems like forever across the water.

In Cancale, it seems we did nothing but eat. The area is famous for oysters, and we had them - raw - for lunch and dinner. We also enjoyed fresh scallops and mussels. Sunday, Chantal and I went on a nice, relaxing walk in the morning, and then in a brief break in the weather, we had lunch outside. Afterwards, we went on a fog-enshrouded walk around town and toured the Christmas market, where Jacques treated me & a younger friend to new winter hats!
