an exercise in patience

The installation disks arrived while I was on the second part of my vacation. I'm sure you can imagine how excited I was at the prospect of finally getting back online. My excitement didn't last long. Impossible to install the disks. I quickly called a friend to see if I could use her internet to look up what I should do. After an hour of searching, I still was at a loss. Back to Amiens I went (in a borrowed car, because mine "just sounds funny") only to find that I should have called first: the office is closed on the weekend. So I went again yesterday (in the borrowed car) and of course, they've never seen a problem like mine. It could be the new hard drive is faulty, or it could be another problem altogether. I am still waiting to hear from the technician.

The car, by the way, is going to the mechanic's this evening. How do I make them understand that I think it's whooshing and whizzing and making an altogether different noise than it has all year? I mean, it's never sounded right. So much so that recently, a student asked, "Madame, do you drive? A big car that makes lots of noise? I saw you this weekend. It's really loud, your car!"

So maybe tomorrow afternoon, if I cross my fingers and the stars are aligned just right, I will be back in the modern world with my computer and my car. Or maybe I'll borrow the Fiat one more time and retrieve my computer, because let's admit, I've got so much catching up to do that how will I even find time to drive?

So sorry to hear the sad news of your computer crash. I can't wait to hear more from you personally. I have met my "partenaire" in France for the Amiens exchange and I have such great news of things happening here. Please drop me a line at liber8minds@yahoo.com and let me know your number so I can give you a call. Le temps s'envole, n'est-ce pas?
