Last weekend, some of the other Fulbright teachers and I got together in St. Malo for a much-needed girls' weekend. Even though our menu included
galettes, bleu d'Auvergne,
baguettes blondes and a Breton cake, things felt a bit like home. We shared teaching ideas, funny stories, newly-discovered cultural secrets and frustrating moments - a good reminder to us all that we're not alone in this experience. We walked

around Shannon's neighborhood and the
intramuros, shopping, talking and getting to know each other better. In the evenings, we sat around the fire and bonded over good food and drink. And for dessert on Saturday night, Shannon surprised us with good ol' Ben & Jerry's cookie dough ice cream. Not only did it feel like home, it tasted like it as well!
