I have a tendency to fall down stairs when traveling. I've slipped down hotel stairs in more than one country; the last time, I literally slid into the kitchen at the Château de Chenonceau. One of my students had fallen about two minutes before me, so I really blame it on the worn marble steps of the castle and not on my clumsiness. Even so, I was pretty impressed when last week, I climbed up and down the steep, narrow ramparts of Avila, as well as the windy tower staircases in the Cathedral of Amiens (not to mention surviving being locked in the tower) without so much as a close call.
I certainly have made up for that streak of luck this afternoon. After a long-overdue cleaning of the house, I finally was ready to take a shower. I ran upstairs to get my new fuzzy pink bathrobe (much thanks to the Jones and Arthur families), and about halfway back down I slipped and fell the rest of the way. HARD. I will have bruises on both of my arms, my right leg, and the left side of my derrière. I also think I pulled a muscle in my neck as I tried to stop my fall by holding on to the railing. I was actually nauseated from the pain, and can't believe I don't have a broken bone. I'm sure glad my momma brought me a big bottle of Tylenol...
Sadly, I find myself wishing I had hurt myself a bit more so I could have un arrêt de travail and therefore have time to get caught up on school work and - more importantly - blogging. I've fallen so far behind. I have a long list of things to write about, but finding time is a bit of a challenge. I promise to write soon.

P.S. I am going to post about Christmas, Spain, etc. with December dates, so be sure to check the archives if you're anxiously awaiting new posts (Alison and Mikie!). But be patient...
I'm sorry you fell. I fall down a lot myself, so I have much sympathy. Get well soon!
oh my gracious! i'm glad you're okay, but so so sorry this happened at all. i hope you heal quickly.
In case you're worried, I'm NOT going to post pictures of my bruises. I share a lot on here, but sometimes a girl's gotta draw the line!
Thanks for the sympathy. I'm actually less sore than I expected to be and am very fortunate not to have broken anything.
More times I've fallen:
Senior year of high school: UP the escalator at O'Hare airport. Six puncture wound scars in my knee to prove it. Okay, so I was running and was wearing terrible late-80's acid washed jeans with a hole in the knee. But still.
Less than a year later: Out of a van. Which was parked. And I was sober. Weeks on crutches and a bone chip in my ankle to prove it.
i remember when you fell at the Château de Chenonceau!! oh that was so sad! but ill always remember it as the time i used a VANDERTRAMPP verb for the first time (in actual speech anyway)! "MON DIEU TU ES TOMBEE!!"
i SO cant wait to see you!! :-D
