l'attelage

My friend Alexandre has five horses. Boulonnais horses, to be exact. This breed of horses comes from Boulogne-sur-Mer in the north of France, and they are very often used for attelage, or carriage driving. Alexandre loves to faire de l'attelage - he has seventeen charettes, many of which are waiting to be restored.

We've gone for a couple of Sunday drives through the countryside with the horses and his Berger Picard, Satine, who runs alongside the carriage. She's the kind of gal who makes a cat person want a dog.

I'm so glad spring is finally here - the fields of golden colza decorate the landscape, the days are longer and I have finally turned off the heat in my house.
