In French class, the sixth graders worked on les Fables de la Fontaine, and in art, they created bandes dessinées of the fables. Then, in the CDI (centre de documentation et d'information, or school library), they worked with a visiting comic book illustrator. He didn't particularly care for the one pictured here, because the boys wrote it in ch'ti, the local dialect of the North, or ch'nord, which the artist said is a passing fad created by Dany Boon's recent movie. I, however, found it charming and quite appropriate since we live close to the North and picard often resembles ch'ti. Plus, Charles and Benjamin are two of the most adorable boys I've ever met. I made a big deal over their work and asked them if I could record them reading it, especially since I've had my American students learn the same fable.

By they way, the best comics of the school were sent to a contest in Amiens, where one of our students (and Alex's cousin) won first prize for the whole region!
