the seaside

Once we sprung the car from it's grassy prison, Michael and I headed to the coast. I wanted him to see the English Channel and the chalk cliffs. People recommended Le Tréport and neighboring Mers-les-Bains, so we packed a picnic (tabouli salad, Spanish lomo, bread, grapes and of course, wine) and headed that direction.

After our lunch on the rocky shore, we took the FREE funiculaire up to the top for a scenic view. We all know that I'm claustrophobic, hate tunnels and am afraid of heights, but I've become more courageous these past few months. Still, that didn't stop me from panicking a bit when a little French boy asked his dad about the descent and he replied that if the brakes went out, we'd crash. He looked at my expression and assured me it wouldn't happen. We walked along the top of the cliffs, and then headed to Mers to see the unique houses along the coast. Each home has a name, porcelain details and is painted in bright colors.
