say cheese!

My pal Michael wins the friend award for not only visiting me once this year, but twice! He got here on Thursday, and after marathon laundry (he's already been traveling for several weeks) we got down to business: food! Michael is even more obsessed with French fromage than I am, and our afternoon of visiting the Château fort de Rambures ended with a little jog into Normandy (it's not far) to a specialty cheese shop. Kern Fromages is run by a man from somewhere north - perhaps Denmark - and he was more than happy to help us select some cheeses for the evening. While we were selecting our third cheese, he asked Vous êtes nombreux ? No, it's just the two of us. We just like cheese. It was hard to hold back on the Roquefort and the cheese with flaxseed, but the cerise sur le gâteau was the goat cheese encrusted with golden raisins. Miam miam. An evening walk through Poix and Blangy eased my guilt in enjoying the dinner of salmon in cream sauce, pan seared potatoes, carrots and of course, cheese.

Jealous!!! I love to look at the fancy (and expensive) cheeses at the grocery story, but I can never bring myself to buy.

Hi to Michael!!!

I love cheese. I'm so jealous. Do I get a prize from France? Can it be cheese? :-)

Seth, you WILL have traveled with me two times after July, you know. Can't wait for you to get here! And no, I won't buy you Calvados or Absinthe, silly boy.

Amy Catherine, you MUST indulge in cheese from time to time. Not only is it delicious, your bones cry out for the calcium. Next time you're in the 405, we'll go to Forward Foods in Norman and have a dégustation.

Mikie, sorry I won't be bringing you cheese. Agriculture & Customs don't like the fresh (and IMO the best) cheeses. Besides, I don't even have room for my French baking pans I've accumulated. How am I ever going to get everything home?!
